The average Canadian family throws out an estimated one tonne of packaging annually. In fact, when it comes to producing garbage, Canadians are the most wasteful people in the world.

The Green Shopper Program shows consumers how to reduce the amount of packaging we discard through environmentally smart shopping habits.

All of us, consumers, business and government, have a key role to play in reducing the post consumer waste stream by:

• becoming informed as to how purchasing choices impact the environment
• buying less
• rejecting more
• speaking up and demanding better packaging
• getting involved and actively participating in change
