Environmentally Sound Packaging Coalition (ESP)
1987-2003

The ESP Coalition was founded in 1987 in British Columbia, Canada, by several non-profit organizations concerned with the proliferation of packaging and the effects on the consumer and the environment. Founding members of the Coalition were the Consumers Association of Canada, PITCH-IN CANADA, the Federation of B.C. Naturalists, the Recycling Council of British Columbia and the B.C. Wildlife Federation.

The ESP Coalition became a Canada-wide organization in 1993 and the Coalition was involved in numerous activities in partnership with industry and various regulatory bodies. ESP became Canada's recognized independent source for information about environmental packaging initiatives. Over the years, ESP produced various documents, publications and studies pertaining to environmental packaging, greening of the marketplace, economic instruments pertaining to packaging and waste disposal etc...

The ESP Coalition ceased to be in existence in June, 2003. Its popular Green Shopper Program continues to be distributed by PITCH-IN CANADA.
