Canadian Textbook Recognized Internationally
VANCOUVER: A Canadian textbook on waste and recycling has won international recognition and has been reprinted in South Africa.
Entitled Re...THINK and written for those teaching Kindergarten to grade 3, the textbook was produced for PITCH-IN CANADA, a national non-profit organization which conducts action programs involving young people across Canada. The textbook can be downloaded free of charge from PITCH-IN CANADA's website at www.pitch-in.ca
Keep South Africa Beautiful, PITCH-IN CANADA's counterpart in that country, plays an important role in developing environmental education materials for primary schools. The organization plans to adapt Re...THINK and distribute it to primary schools. "The activities in the book are excellent and it would be most suitable for South Africa youth of all cultural groups," states Raymond Byrne, Keep South Africa Beautiful's Chief Executive.
The textbook is organized into three main themes: Our Garbage at Home and School; Recycling and Reusing: and Litter and our Environment.
The stand-alone teacher friendly unit is packed with "learning by doing" activities, color coded by theme and illustrated. Teachers can obtain free sample activities by visiting PITCH-IN CANADA's web site at www.pitch-in.ca.
PITCH-IN CANADA is a national non-profit, charitable organization founded to conduct environmental education and improvement programs. The organization is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors and works closely with all levels of government and others interested in promoting the organization's objectives.
Ever since PITCH-IN CANADA was founded in 1967, Canada's youth have participated enthusiastically in its programs, showing their interest in, and concern for, the environment. The organization's programs receive wide support and are used by thousands of youth leaders and teachers to emphasize the importance of personal involvement and dedication to resolving environmental problems.
